Sacramento Weather Forecast

Sunny and warm weather for this week with peak heat on Wednesday. Elevated fire danger in the valley.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — Sierra thunderstorms will wind down tonight with dry and warmer weather through the week.

Temperatures will only slightly above average to start the work week with warmer weather in store midweek.

A high pressure ridge will build through Wednesday with highs hovering near 90-95°.  With the hot temperatures arriving, it's a good warning to keep an eye on pets and children inside cars without AC running. Car temperatures can increase by about 10 degrees every 10 minutes when temperatures are in the 90s.

A slight increase in the north wind will lower humidity through the middle of the week. This will bring an elevated fire danger for the Sacramento Valley. Despite the wet winter and spring, things are beginning to dry out, especially the grasses in the valley. Humidity will remain fairly low the next few days, in the 15-25% range during the afternoon. Fire danger is possible, especially grass fires. With soil moisture still abundant, fire spread is limited. But as these grasses begin drying out, the summer months will see plenty of available fuel.

Peak fire season is around the corner so it's a good idea to keep fire safety in mind. Simple items like being mindful to properly dispose of cigarettes and matches, not driving on grass and making sure tow chains are secured tightly can help prevent a spark. Grasses will dry out quickly resulting in rising fire danger for the lower elevations in the coming days.

The Sierra storms end overnight with a dry outlook for the rest of the week.

A slightly cooler weather pattern develops by the weekend with highs dropping back towards our seasonal averages (mid-80s). A slight chance of Sierra storms returns by Sunday.
