The record rain in July for downtown Sacramento is 0.90 inches which fell in 1974.
SACRAMENTO – Even though people watch the weather forecast and they hear rain is coming, some still get caught off guard when the drops start to fall.
July is typically a dry month for Sacramento, which receives little to no measurable rainfall. The jet stream is pushed well to the north of our region as a dominant area of high pressure sits over the region during the summer. We will get monsoon moisture that moves in from the desert southwest.
The 0.01 of an inch of rain that fell at Sacramento Executive airport Sunday broke a record for July 20.
There have been previous years of rain during July. The most rain received in July
was 0.79 inches in 1974 at Sacramento Executive. That same year, downtown Sacramento received 0.90 inches of rain, which also set a record for all-time rain in July.
