SACRAMENTO – February will end just as it began, on a wet note.
So far, downtown Sacramento has received 3 inches of rain. Most of the rain came over a six day period at the beginning of the month. The average amount of rainfall for February is 3.69 inches.
With another 0.80 inches of rain expected by Thursday afternoon, the month will end with above average rainfall.
Sacramento is still running below average for the rainy season. Since July 1, there has only been 4.95 inches of rain for downtown Sacramento. The average rain for this time of year is 14.16 inches.
In order to reach normal rainfall for the season, which is 20.27 inches, Sacramento will need more than 15 inches of rain.
Another weather system will bring a round of rain to the area Friday. This system could produce more than an inch of rain by Saturday morning. The greatest amount of rainfall on record for the month of February is 10.30 inches of rain, which was set in 1986.
The average rainfall total for March is 3.02 inches. April generally brings 1.30 inches. Rainfall amounts taper off during May and June with 0.76 inches and 0.19 inches respectively.
