The PlayStation 4 has sold more than 5.3 million units worldwide since launching mid-November of last year, Sony reported.
"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. President and Group CEO Andrew House said. "The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans."
The PlayStation 4 is scheduled to launch on Saturday in Japan, which should only cause sales to balloon far beyond it's current mark.
"I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4," House said.
Sony's PS4 sells for $399 in the U.S. and is available at numerous retailers nationwide.
