The PlayStation 4 video game console has cumulatively sold through more than 10 million units worldwide, according to Sony.
The company said this demonstrates the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history. Sony's sales number is accurate as of Aug. 10.
"The responses we have received for the PS4 system's unique gameplay experiences powered by the network, along with its vast game portfolio has been phenomenal, and I am absolutely delighted that PS4 was able to reach this commemorative milestone in less than nine months," Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. President and Group CEO Andrew House said. "We're so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation gamers worldwide, and we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and services in the months ahead."
Microsoft's Xbox One, the PS4's biggest rival, has reportedly sold roughly five million units as of last month, and Nintendo's Wii U is sitting at nearly seven million sold.
PlayStation 4 is currently available in 100 countries and regions around the globe.
