Nintendo has a smashing surprise in store for Sacramento-area gamers this summer.
Thanks to a partnership with retailer Best Buy, Nintendo will offer local players a chance to go head-to-head with each other in the unreleased Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. before it launches in stores later this year.
From 4-9 p.m. on June 11 and noon to 5 p.m. on June 14 the Best Buy store on Iron Point Road in Folsom and on Birdcage Center in Citrus Heights will host "Super Smash Bros. Smash-Fest @ Best Buy," an event that features the same demo version of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that people will get to play at the E3 2014 video game trade show in Los Angeles. The two locations are among 100 chosen nationwide for the event. Ten of the locations are in the Golden State.
The four-player demo of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U lets players battle it out against one another using their favorite characters from fan-favorite video game franchises like Pokémon, Super Mario Bros., Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog and The Legend of Zelda.
Currently rated "RP - Rating Pending" by the ESRB, Super Smash Bros. is also being developed for the 3DS.
The game is slated to release in mid-to-late 2014.
