DALLAS -- A fetus was found Friday in a bathroom at Woodrow Wilson High School.
"Obviously, this is very serious. It's very troubling," said DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander. "But we will work through this as a school district and a school community."
The Dallas Independent School District said a maintenance worker found the fetus after being alerted by students. The second floor of the school, where the bathroom is located, was closed down around 2:30 p.m., students say.
Students were not notified during the school day and the district says it is now working to notify all students and their parents.
"We have called in additional counselors to the school. They will be here on the scene this afternoon," Dahlander said. "They're going to be back here on Tuesday to assist any students and staff who may be having difficulty with this particular situation."
The bathroom is being treated as a crime scene, the district said. The Dallas Police Department as well as Dallas ISD Police are handling the investigation.
"The district encourages parents and families to discuss the situation with their students, and when appropriate, encourage their students to meet with counseling staff at the school," the district said in a statement.
