A 7-year-old twin boy is expected to survive after his grandmother accidentally shot him early Tuesday.
Linda Maddox was sleeping with her twin grandsons while the boys' father was at work. Maddox had placed a chair against the bedroom door handle for extra protection.
Just before 1 a.m., Maddox heard the chair sliding against the wood floor. Assuming it was an intruder, she grabbed a loaded .22 caliber revolver she keeps by the bed and she fired one shot in the dark, toward the door.
Seconds after firing, she heard the screams of her 7-year-old grandson, Tyler, whom she had shot in the upper body. The boy was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he remains in critical, but stable condition.
Paramedics who responded to the shooting said it appeared Tyler would be OK.
