Stockton police detectives are looking for two men in connection with the fatal shooting of another man they believe was simply trying to quell a disturbance after an attempted kidnapping. They also want to find the man who tried to take a little boy.
The shooting was on the 4500 block of Shelley Court inside of an apartment complex just before 8:23 Sunday evening, according to police. Officers found a 44-year-old man there who had been shot. He was transported to an area hospital to be treated but died. His name has not been released.
According to investigators, a different man had attempted to abduct a 4-year-old boy and had run to the victim's department. Several people came to the victim's apartment and caused a disturbance. While the victim was trying to calm everyone down, two Hispanic men in their early 20s approached. One of the men pulled a firearm on the older man and shot him. The gunman and his accomplice were gone by the time police arrived.
The attempted kidnapper was described as black, in his late 30s to early 40s. He had a light complexion and freckles.
Anyone with information about the man who shot the victim, his accomplice and the attempted kidnapper was urged to call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377 or Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600. You can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $10,000.
