STOCKTON, Calif. - Two different agencies in Stockton are reporting a significant number of tips coming in as police search for the fourth suspect in a July 16 bank robbery, kidnapping and shootout that turned deadly.
The reward for information leading to the fourth suspect had reached $50,000, it was announced Thursday. Almost immediately, Stockton police and Stockton Crime Stoppers reported a big response.
"Two days ago we were getting a couple of calls a day. That was it. Most people weren't coming forward or we hadn't reached everyone yet. After yesterday's press conference, there were 12 calls last night. That's a very good number," Crime Stoppers director Tommy Henderson said.
Tips to Crime Stoppers can be left anonymously, but at the Stockton Police Department the response was even greater, where dozens of calls came in and people were leaving names and numbers.
"I think a lot of people are wanting to give us the information. It's the right thing to do," police spokesperson Rosie Calderon said.
The suspect still being sought is the person driving a black car that dropped off the three bank robbers. The car was later found but the driver hasn't been located.
The robbers took hostages, and then engaged police in a rolling shootout that lasted about an hour. Two of the suspects were shot to death as was hostage Misty Holt-Singh.
