The family of the woman killed in Wednesday's bank robbery and subsequent shootout in Stockton addressed the media from outside the offices of Stockton attorney Michael Platt on Friday.
Misty Holt-Singh's husband, son, daughter, sister and the family attorney spoke at the briefing, largely thanking family, friends and the public for their support, and the media for respecting of the family's wishes for privacy. Each also individually highlighted Holt Singh's selflessness.
"She was the most caring, loving mother and wife," husband Paul Singh Sr. said. "She would never do for her. It was always for us. And that's what makes it so tough, is that she was our rock."
Singh Sr. said what happened to his wife was a nightmare that he wouldn't wish on anyone, stressing on several occasions that the reality of the situation has yet to sink in.
Singh's son, 19-year-old Paul Jr,. echoed his father's sentiments.
"I don't want to think what is going on is true," he said. "I wake up and I'm hoping, I'm hoping that it's a dream and that it's a dream and that my mom's going to be there. But she's not."
Holt-Singh's 12-year-old daughter Mia, who was waiting in the family car when her mother was taken hostage, spoke very briefly. She recounted memories of her mother's commitment to the family before concluding, "I love you mom."
Dawn Holt, Holt-Singh's sister, thanked Bear Creek Church for its support. She asked others to continue their prayers for the family, and requested the media continue to respect the family's space.
Holt also asked the press and public to show the same level of respect to the families of the men responsible for her sister's death.
"Let's respect the robbers' families grief as well," she said through tears. "They've lost someone they love too."
Holt has established a memorial fund at Bank of Stockton in her sister's name. Those wishing to contribute can find it listed under the "Dawn Holt Memorial Fund for Misty Singh,"account number 1210054712.
Family attorney and friend Gregory Bentley concluded the press conference, focusing on the ongoing investigation into the robbery and gun battle and imploring for an "open, honest and transparent investigation." He urged anyone with information or evidence regarding Wednesday's events to come forward.
A community candlelight vigil will be held for Holt-Singh and the two surviving hostages at 8 p.m. Saturday at the downtown Waterfront Hotel in Stockton.
