Two suspected gunmen are now behind bars for the shooting death of a standout student athlete from Fiji.

Roy Ravana Jr., 20, was shot and killed just after noon Monday near 48th Street and Baker Avenue. His friend was also hit by gunfire, but is expected to survive.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested two teenage boys in connection to the shootings. Elias Guevara, 17, and Rozco Gutierrez, 16, will be charged as adults. Deputies believe the suspects committed the crimes as part of a gang.

Friends said Ravana was not in a gang, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He's a sweet guy. I dont' know why they did that," Ravana's friend Keleni Kaihea said. "I'm so sad. I'm so angry why they did that."

Ravana was in Sacramento to play with the Sacramento Lions Rugby Club for a few months. He was a student at Iowa Community College and was going to attend the University of Louisiana on a track and field scholarship in the fall. Ravana was staying with a Sacramento family for a little while until he started school.

Ravana's father is on his way to Sacramento to bring Ravana's body back to Fiji for burial.
