SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A former Sacramento County sheriff's deputy has been convicted of two federal charges for the illegal sale of dozens of weapons, some of which were used by criminals.

The Sacramento Bee reports a jury yesterday found Ryan McGowan of Elk Grove guilty of providing a large-capacity ammunition clip to a federal undercover agent and possession of an illegal shotgun.

McGowan and Sacramento County Deputy Thomas Lu, who resigned in 2012, were accused of serving as straw buyers, purchasing handguns that cannot be legally bought by residents, including exotic weapons like high-powered rifles mounted on pistol frames.
