The Sacramento Kings say demolition of part of the Downtown Plaza for construction of the entertainment and sports complex kicks off this Friday, Aug. 1 at 6 a.m.

Initial activity includes:

· Temporary fencing panels installed at the Downtown Plaza Mall entry points between 5th Street to 7th Street and L Street to J Street.
* Pedestrians can access the West Mall (which will remain open during construction) via L or J streets.

· Building materials delivered via truck to loading docks at 5th/L streets.
* Primary truck routes are along J Street, I Street, Richards Boulevard and 7th Street.

· Downtown Plaza East Garage entrances at 6th/L streets and 6th/J streets will close for the duration of construction. All other entrances and exits at Downtown Plaza East and West garages will remain open.
* Barricades installed within the East Garage to separate the work zone.

· Bus stops and street lane re-striping at 9th Street between L Street and Capitol Mall, Capitol Mall between 7th and 8th streets and 5th Street between Capitol Mall and L Street.
* Working hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Street work on L Street and J Street to occur during day off-peak hours and nights/weekends from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. All lanes will remain open for the duration of the project.

· Sidewalk closure at the southern corner of 6th and J streets.
* Installation of a temporary crosswalk and handicap ramp at 6th and J streets to accommodate pedestrian traffic.

· Interior abatement work within the mall, including new electrical work on the West Mall to separate power sources from the East Mall.

During the first week, activity will include:

· Plywood barricades to replace the temporary fencing panels (see above).

· Bus stops relocated from L Street to Capitol Mall between 9th Street/Capitol Mall.

· Interior abatement within the mall.

· New concrete ramps formed and poured at 6th/L Street and 7th/L Street.

The noise control equipment, technology and techniques will be utilized wherever feasible, including:

· 6-foot+ noise barriers erected around the outside perimeter of the project site with sound blankets.

· Equipment and trucks outfitted with improved mufflers, use of intake silencers, ducts, engine enclosures and acoustically-reducing shields or shrouds.

· Use of drills, rather than impact equipment (i.e. jackhammers), and "quiet" pile driving technologies.

· Use of an exhaust muffler on the compressed air exhaust to lower noise levels up to approximately 10 decibels (dBA) and external jackets on impact tools to achieve a further reduction of 5 dBA.

· Designation of a disturbance coordinator responsible for responding to local concerns and distributing notifications/construction schedules to those within 200 feet of demolition.
