SACRAMENTO - Sacramento police are investigating the death of a baby girl who was taken to a fire station with a traumatic injury.
The 14-month-old girl was in a state of medical distress when she was taken to Sacramento Fire Station No. 17 around 5:30 p.m. Friday. The baby was then transported to UC Davis Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Police said homicide detectives were called to the hospital to investigate because the baby had unexplained physical trauma. Investigators haven't determined a cause of death. Her identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
Detectives found that the mother's boyfriend was taking care of the toddler while she was at work. When the mother returned home, she saw that the girl needed medical help. She and her boyfriend then took the baby to the fire station.
On Saturday morning, police arrested the boyfriend Guyland Washington, 19, for murder. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail with no bail. Washington is expected in court on Tuesday.
