The Sacramento County Coroner has identified a man suspected of attempting to rob a bank on Friday and fleeing from police.

Michael Parker, 45, died following the crash.

At about 4:30 p.m. Friday a suspect believed to be Parker tried to rob El Dorado Savings Bank at 47th and J streets. He passed a note to a teller stating that he would take hostages if his demands were not met.

The bank, however, would not give him money, and the suspect left empty-handed.

Witnesses were able to describe the man and his car and give investigators his license plate number, allowing police to track him down a few miles away.

A pursuit ensued through city streets and on to the Capital City Freeway. The suspect exited the freeway at 30th Street and hit a tree near 30th and C streets.
