SACRAMENTO - A community is hoping for a quick resolution after sheriff's deputies found a man and a woman shot inside their car.
It happened at the Northwood Apartments on Howe Avenue and Cottage Way in Sacramento.
Detectives gathered evidence at the scene where a man was found dead inside his vehicle from gunshot wounds. A woman found with him was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead soon after, also from gunshot wounds.
Flyers on residents' front doors apologized for the overnight disturbance and insisted the people involved in the crime were not residents nor associated with the complex.
By morning, apartment management had added security guards who said they believed the crimes to be gang-related and that relatives of the victims had shown up at the complex aggressively going door-to-door looking for answers.
Some of the residents who live there said they're worried, not only about the shootings, but what some have called a heavy-handed follow-up by someone close to the victims.
"We're all just kind of just blown away by this. To wake up and find something like this happened at your front doorstep, you don't know what to think," resident David Vantrease said.
The sheriff's department said it was too early in the investigation to determine if the shootings were gang- or drug-related.
