Firefighters were called to a three-alarm fire along the mile 4 marker on the American River Parkway near Cal Expo late Tuesday afternoon.
The vegetation fire sent up plenty of smoke over the area but did not appear to threaten fair operations. News10 radio station partner KFBK did say traffic in the area was impacted and westbound Business 80 at Cal Expo was closed for a short time.
Sacramento City Fire Department spokesperson Roberto Padilla said 20 fire rigs were dispatched to fight the flames.
There was no early word on how the fire started.
The fire was contained by 7:30 p.m., Padilla said. Some crews would stay overnight to monitor hot spots.
