SACRAMENTO – A 17-year-old girl was killed Tuesday morning when the Honda Civic in which she was a passenger hit a parked truck, according to Sacramento police.

The Civic was travelling westbound on a frontage road along Florin Road around 2 a.m. when it hit the truck, police Lt. Norm Leong said.

According to Leong, the teen was killed in the crash.

The Saramento County coroner identified the victim as Maricela Baza of Sacramento. Friends called her Marleni.

Her friends said she had just graduated from Calvine High School last week and was already taking summer classes at Sacramento City College.

Investigators say the driver of the car ran from the scene into a nearby home. He was captured by authorities with the assistance of a witness, police said. He and another passenger were transported to an area hospital with non-critical injuries, Leong said.

"I woke up and I saw a body in my driveway," Joe Romeo said. He lives nearby.

Romeo says he woke up and found the the driver of car lying face down in his driveway unconscious.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was in police custody at a hospital. Leong said he will be booked on vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges when released.

The second passenger, a female, was expected to be OK, Leong said. She will not face charges.
