SACRAMENTO - There are questions about whether Bonnie Pannell wants to continue serving on the Sacramento City Council.
On Saturday, the five-term, district 8 councilwoman held a public meeting with nearly 50 people, including district residents, police, educators and business leaders.
According to an unnamed source, Pannell stood up towards the end of the meeting and said "My voice isn't getting any better, I'm stepping down."
In an email sent to News10 by Pannell, the councilwoman wrote, "I am in this office until 2016. If I decide to live (sic) early, I will send out a press lease (sic).
Pannel declined to comment further at Tuesday night's meeting.
Pannell's been on the council since 1998. She won re-election for her fifth term in 2012.
She's served as vice mayor for the City Council in 2001 and 2011.
Pannell's district covers numerous communities including Meadowview, Parkway, North Laguna Creek. She holds several offices and sits on the Regional Transit Board.
