Dozens of CHP cadets run 5 miles through West Sacramento and Downtown to finish off a 27-week training course. Soon, those cadets will be wearing badges.
WEST SACRAMENTO - The newest graduating class from the California Highway Patrol Academy had one last task to complete before graduation, a five-mile run.
Starting in West Sacramento at the academy, 90 cadets ran in formation through downtown and ended near the Capitol. The run has been a long-standing tradition with CHP, and is a right of passage of sorts for the cadets, who are completing a 27-week training course.
The run concluded with a moment of silence at the California Peace Officers Memorial Monument right across from the State Capitol building. The monument is in honor of the more than 1,500 California peace officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
