ROSEVILLE, Calif.– A local race car driver is in stable condition after crashing her car into a wall at All American Speedway in Roseville on Saturday night.
Family members said Lisa Young was still in the hospital, but she is improving and in good spirits. They said she is talking, laughing, and joking with family and other members of the racing community.
The Roseville Fire Department said Lisa crashed head-on into the wall at about 50 miles per hour.
Lisa's dad, Dain Lyon, said they're still trying to piece together exactly what happened but so far it appears that as the cars were racing and coming out of turn 2, another car may have bumped Lisa's car, spun her out and into the wall.
Lyon said he had just finished his own race before Lisa's accident. Lyon said Lisa had been racing for the last two years with him. It's a sport they both love and wanted to share together.
Lisa's mother, Kim Young-Lyon, said Lisa was so passionate because she felt like she was doing something positive for the community.
"She really enjoys just doing something for her," Young-Lyon explained. "She was positive because the race track was so positive, keeping kids from doing drugs, pitting them where they should be - racing at a track."
Lisa's parents said the safety equipment in the car did its job and that Lisa was well aware of the risks of racing.
Lisa is known for driving her hot pink F-4 at All American Speedway. She was racing in the Matt Camp Memorial Race on Saturday when she crashed. Camp was a popular racer at All American Speedway who died last year in a boating accident.
"As you know, we were out there celebrating the Matt Camp Memorial Race. She had a dream that he wanted her to come out and do a pink car and be out there and be and incentive for the ladies," Lyon tearfully explained. "That's why she was out there in her hot pink car in memorial of Matt Camp who was very close to us and I know he was one of the angels out there that night."
Lisa has a young son. Her family said they're just focusing on her recovery and caring for her son.
Lisa's family said they continue to support All American Speedway and they are thankful for the tight-knit racing community.
