A puppy was taken from the inside of a car in a Costco parking lot in Roseville Thursday afternoon.
Charlie, a 10-week-old Beagle, was left inside of the car, which was parked in a well-shaded part of the lot, with the windows down a few inches while his owner went inside for "maybe 15 minutes," Roseville police spokesperson Dee Dee Gunther said. The owner was driving to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area.
While the owner was inside, an older man, around 60 years old, went into the tire center and complained about the puppy being left in the car. Gunther said the man seemed very agitated. As Costco employees checked on his claim, the man left.
When the owner returned to his car, Charlie was gone. The person who took the puppy left behind Charlie's collar and an unsigned note claiming to take the puppy.
"We're thinking it was probably the older man who was upset about the dog being left," Gunther said about who took the puppy.
Gunther said the owner just wants Charlie back and will not press charges.
"If the man who took the dog wants to come forward, we'll assist in getting the puppy back," Gunther said.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the puppy is urged to call the Roseville Police Department at 916-774-5000.
