SACRAMENTO - An 85-year-old Roseville man detectives believe was stabbed by his son died Wednesday.

Roseville police spokesperson Dee Dee Gunther said Lonnie Burke passed away from injuries he suffered Tuesday morning.

Burke's son, 55-year-old Patrick Burke, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder of a peace officer. Gunther said when an officer arrived at a Windermere Avenue home in response to a call that a man had stabbed his father, the officer encountered Patrick Burke outside of the residence armed with a large knife. Burke allegedly tried to attack the officer and the officer shot him. Burke remains hospitalized under police guard.

Gunther said it wasn't clear what pre-empted the stabbing.
