RIO LINDA, Calif. - A horse was injured when it was struck by a man suspected of driving while under the influence Sunday.
Two horses were crossing the road near M St. and Front St. in Rio Linda when Larry York, 56, of Antelope struck one of the them, according to California Highway Patrol officer Chad Hertzell.
The horse suffered a broken leg in the collision, and may have broken a second leg.
The man riding the horse fell onto the vehicle, smashing the windshield. He was taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital for treatment.
York was taken into custody and transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital where he was evaluated before being booked into jail on charges of felony DUI with injuries and driving on a suspended license, according to the CHP.
CHP officers said York had three prior DUI charges.
