STOCKTON, CA - A pack of dogs that's been terrorizing livestock and killing hundreds of goats in the community of French Camp may have scattered, said acaptain with the San Joaquin COunty Sheriff's Department.

Wednesday afternoon, one of the dogs was shot and killed by a deputy, and it's thought that pit bull was the leader of the pack or the "alpha" dog.

"Experts have told us once you take the alpha dog - remove it from the pack - the rest break up and there's a state of confusion and they stop the activity they're doing," said Capt. Tom Desmaris.

Despite that development, the sheriff's office said it intended to continue searches in French Camp through the night and into Friday morning in case the pack is still active.
