SACRAMENTO – Modesto police say a woman was arrested Sunday when she sold drugs to an undercover police officer with the help of her 13-year-old son.
A release from the Modesto Police Department stated the Modesto Narcotic Enforcement Team (MNET) received an anonymous tip about the possible sales of prescription medication on Craigslist. The ad listed the prescription cold medication Promethazine for sale in Modesto. Investigators from MNET responded to the ad and arranged to meet the seller to purchase the drug.
Pamela Guerrero, 33, of Modesto, along with her son, met with an undercover officer at an area business parking lot to complete the transaction. When the officer began talking to Guerrero, she had her son show the officer the Promethazine and then provided the officer with several bottles of the medication, according to the report.
Guerrero was arrested shortly thereafter on charges of sales of prescription medication and felony child endangerment. She was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. Her son was released to a family member.
"It's a dangerous situation for a juvenile to be in" Sgt. Rea of MNET said. "We arrest people who show up to drug deals armed all of the time, and this could have very well been someone else trying to rob Guerrero and her son", he said.
Promethazine is a commonly abused prescription medication, especially among high school and college aged persons. People who abuse the medication are at high risk for overdose and serious injury, according to police.
The Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team encouraged anyone to contact them regarding any drug related questions or concerns. As always citizens can contact Crime Stoppers to report this activity. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637.
