Elk Grove spokesman Chris Trim said a 2-year-old boy drowned during a church outing at Elk Grove Regional Park Saturday afternoon.

The child wandered away when the adults' attentions were focused on taking pictures. He was later found in the duck pond at the park, Trim said.

A lifeguard from the park's swim center began to perform CPR.

After firefighters responded and continued to perform CPR, the boy was transported to a nearby hospital where attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
