SACRAMENTO – Colfax High School and Colfax Elementary School were placed on lockdown Wednesday after someone reported seeing an armed person on campus.

Preliminary reports indicated the schools were placed on lockdown around 12:15 p.m. after one to three first-grade students saw a man dressed in black , carrying a gun while walking across the soccer field toward the high school, according to the Placer County sheriff's Lieutenant John Poretti.

Authorities searched both schools and the surrounding area for more than two hours before declaring both scenes clear and allowing buses to pick up students around 2:40 p.m.
