SACRAMENTO – A fire claimed the lives of two women in Placerville Friday morning.

Cal Fire dispatch said that at about 5:51 a.m. crews responded to a fire at a property near Mosquito Road and Rose Lane and found the living room of a home fully involved. Fire hydrants were 1,500 hundred feet away from the house.

Firefighters found the victims, believed to be the two women who lived there, dead in a bedroom.

UPDATE: Victim of deadly Placerville fire identified

Neighbors said the women were Crystal Ward and Carolyn Hough. Ward owned the donkey ranch. None of the approximately 20 animals on the property were hurt.

There are security cameras on the property and fire investigators planned to check them to see if there was anything to be learned about the fire.

The flames destroyed the home, causing an $600,000 in damage, fire officials said. The cause remains under investigation.
