A hurt bear cub got a little too close to skiers at a Tahoe ski resort Monday morning.
The cub went up to the Heavenly Valley Ski Resort, even right where skiers were descending from ski lifts, according to Carl Lackey with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Lackey tranquilized the cub and Chris Grasso with Heavenly Mountain Ski Patrol brought him down the mountain.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) has taken over the cub's care. LTWC's Tom McMillham said the not-so-little-fella was checked out at Alpine Medical Center for a limp and contusions on his right front leg. The bear, which weighs 49 pounds, is a little dehydrated but back with LTWC Monday afternoon.
McMillham said the bear is believed to be a first-year cub that probably weighed 60 to 70 pounds when it went into hibernation.
