FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Fairfield police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl.

Investigators found the body of Naomy Rojas between an apartment complex and railroad tracks over the weekend.

Dozens of candles now burn there in memory of the teen. Plush teddy bears and flowers sit along the tracks, serving as a reminder of the young life that was taken.

Police said Rojas' lifeless body was found early Saturday morning behind the apartment complex on the 1400 block of Phoenix Drive.

Authorities said Rojas died of an apparent gunshot wound at the scene.

Witnesses who live nearby said they woke up at around 1 o'clock Saturday morning after hearing four to six gunshots.

"It's still puzzling to us how someone this young can get shot," Fairfield Police Sgt. Franco Cesar said.

As of late Sunday night, police had no suspects in custody and no motive for the shooting.

"It's an ongoing investigation, we're trying to get the public's help to help us put the pieces together basically," Cesar said.

Many in the community are just left to wonder who would take a young girl's life and leave her body by the train tracks.

Lt. Stephen Crane said their investigation has led them to believe there were numerous individuals present at the time of the shooting who fled. Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Fairfield police.

Family members set up an online fundraising account to help with funeral costs.
