SACRAMENTO - Either a chain reaction collision or two separate crashes on Interstate 80 in the Sierra has left one person dead and the eastbound lanes closed.
According to the early investigation, a Wal-Mart big rig lost control in the area of the Soda Springs exit and three vehicles crashed behind it. However, there may be two separate crash scenes.
The California Highway Patrol was turning eastbound traffic off the freeway at Kingvale.
The first report of the crash came in at 5 p.m.
It has been snowing over the Sierra a good portion of the day. Chains are required on I-80.
