SACRAMENTO - Sacramento Metropolitan firefighters were called to 6843 Brookhaven Way in Citrus Heights Tuesday morning in response to a house fire.

According to Metro Fire Captain Michelle Eidam, a Citrus Heights police officer spotted the fully engulfed home and called for fire assistance around 6 a.m.

Metro Fire crews arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and found a well-involved attic fire extending into the living quarters of the home. Due to a report of possible people trapped inside, crews began firefighting efforts while other units began searching for people, Eidam said.

Following primary, secondary and additional searches, firefighters discovered the occupants of the home had left before the fire started. Four dogs however were in the home at the time of the firefight and were rescued, Eidam revealed.

SMUD workers were called to the scene to disconnect power from a downed line caused by the fire.

Arson investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

The home sustained an estimated $200,000 in losses, Eidam said.
