The Oakland Visitors Bureau is trying to convince Sacramento residents to make a move to the Bay to escape the dog days of summer. City officials have launched a campaign about cool temperatures.
It's already been a hot summer and there are plenty of triple digit days to come before it's over. That's why if you live in Sacramento you've likely already taken advantage of the rivers and pools to try and cool off.
But city officials in Oakland would rather you take a trip down there to get a break from the heat.
The city is running its 'Summer is Cool in Oakland' campaign. There have been spots running for it on radio stations and on Pandora. And the campaign just happens to be running during the hottest time of the year for Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, the Oakland visitors bureau is targeting the 916 after conducting tourism research and found the drive markets have potential for the growth of Oakland. Visit Oakland also put a package together with Amtrak and the Capitol Corridor, which offers train trips between the cities.
So which place is cooler, Sacramento or Oakland? Well if we're talking about temperatures and not lifestyle, the locals in Oakland will tell you they win that game pretty much everyday.
According to the Journal, the timing of the campaign is meant to tie in with a number of Oakland's existing summer festivals.
That includes the Art & Soul barbecue competition that celebrates art, food, and music, the Urban Wine Experience, which showcases 11 wineries, and the Oakland Pride Festival.
The bureau's website tries to attract visitors and states "it's easy to stay cool this summer in Oakland. So, now's your chance. Pack your shorts and SPF and head to the sunny side of the bay!"
