SACRAMENTO - Searchers are looking for a Modesto man who became separated from his running group on the Western States Trail Sunday morning.

The missing man is 55-year-old Robert Root. He was wearing a windbreaker and shorts.

Lt. Kevin Borden with the Placer County Sheriff's Office says three groups of searchers stayed Sunday overnight in the rugged terrain and tended to campfires in the hope Root would see the fires.

The weather has turned chilly and wet again as another low pressure system swings over Northern California, bringing rain and show flurries as low as 2,000 feet, according to News10 meteoroligist Darla Givens.

The search headquarters is in Foresthill in Placer County.
