SACRAMENTO, CA - Dan Carmazzi, the longest tenured area high school football coach is leaving the Jesuit Marauders for his alma materandthe school's biggest rivalChristian Brothers.

Carmazzileaves the post of head football coach at Jesuit after 31 yearsand willserve as co-athletic director, teacher and assistant football coach atChristian Brothers, where he graduated in 1971.

He joins the staff of current Christian Brothers head coach George Petrissans, who replaced Andre Johansen in 2010.

"I would like to thank Lorcan Barnes and Mary Hesser for extending to me the opportunity to return to Christian Brothers," Carmazzi said in a statement released by Christian Brothers. "I will always have tremendous respect for, and be grateful to, the Jesuit High School community for educating my sons and giving me the opportunity to teach and coach these past 35 years.

"But, a part of me has always wanted to return to Christian Brothers. Christian Brothers provided me with an excellent education and athletic experience under the guidance of such outstanding teacher coaches as Dick Sperbeck, Ron Limberger, Jack Witry, Dave Hoskins, Mel Fontes, John Zupan and Ralph Villanueva.

"This is a good time for me personally to make this transition and affords me the opportunity to give back to the school."

As the area's longest tenured coach, Carmazzi was named the Marauders head football coach in 1981. He has over 200 wins under his belt, coaching 15 playoff teams and two Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championships.

In 2005, Carmazzi was named a Model Coach by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

Jesuit has not yet named a replacement coach, but in a statement, athletic director Chris Fahey said:

"We wish Dan well as he returns to his alma mater to finish his career. It was out expectation that Dan would return as our head football coach, so his decision came as a surprise.

"But we understand Coach Carmazzi's reason for seeking new challenges and we respect the decision he has made."
