California is close to the bottom in the overall well-being of children, according to an annual report released by the Annie E. Case Foundation.

The report tracks the well-being of children in every state based on four categories: Economic well-being, education, health and family and community using data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

When compared to every state in the United States, California's children's well-being ranked the following in each of the report's categories:

  • Economic well-being: 48
  • Education: 39
  • Health: 26
  • Family & Community: 21
