How to turn sauce into centerpieces

Decorations help set the tone for your ceremony and/or reception, but let's be honest, all of those items certainly add up quickly and are often ridiculously over-priced! In this post, I'll show you how I'm recreating the mason jar look by recycling and re-purposing pasta sauce canisters and other glass jars. In the end, I'll have a variety of beautiful, budget-friendly centerpieces of various shapes and sizes. They're easy to assemble, and I'm saving money on these crafty alternatives.

Step 1: Collect enough jars for your tables

First of all, you'll want to take a look at your reception seating chart and calculate how many centerpieces you'll need. I'll place about two or three jars in the center of each of our round tables. I know what you're thinking – how much spaghetti can one couple eat? Well, I'm Italian and the answer is a lot! Over the the last few months, I've been storing our glass recyclables. I've also solicited my co-workers for their jars. Friends and co-workers are a great source of information and materials, and unsurprisingly, people are pretty generous when it comes to giving you their garbage.

Step 2: Wrapping the jars

I start by wrapping each jar in strips of burlap and lace, or your favorite material. I purchased spools of burlap a local craft store while they were on sale.

Step 3: Attaching the burlap and lace

Next, use hot glue to keep the burlap and lace attached to the jar. Feel free to make each jar a little different to add some character.

Step 4: Fill your jars

We're using flowers, but you could place a variety of items in the jars for a decorative touch that fits within your theme and colors. This step will come later for obvious freshness and storage reasons.

Voila! You've got yourself an eclectic, economical and eco-friendly centerpiece!

Until next time!
