RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) - The mother of three children who were the subject of an Amber Alert after their father was found slain at a San Francisco Bay Area home is in custody in the father's killing.

Police say the mother, 35-year-old Alicia Ortez, and the children were located along with a male companion at a home in Richmond late Monday night. The mother and the companion were taken into custody on suspicion of homicide.

San Pablo Police Cmdr. Jeff Palmieri said on Tuesday morning investigators were still trying to determine their relationship and a motive.

Ortez was suspected of taking the children from their father's San Pablo home, where he was found fatally shot on Monday morning. Their disappearance sparked an Amber Alert.
