CERES, Calif. (AP) - A man found dead in the freezer of an abandoned Ceres auto shop was married to the man accused of killing him.
Ceres police identified 49-year-old Thomas Kroger as the person discovered April 14 in a chest freezer at The Shop Customs in Ceres, a community about 100 miles east of San Francisco.
The Modesto Bee reports that authorities believe Kroger had been killed between December and April 10. The cause of death remains under investigation.
Police say 26-year-old Jacob Cervantes killed Kroger, and Cervantes has pleaded not guilty. Public records show that Cervantes and Kroger were married Aug. 13.
Police discovered Kroger's body investigating complaints from customers of the auto shop, who said work had not done on their cars and nobody was answering the phone.
