A 63-year-old Las Vegas man was charged with having sex with a 16-year-old girl during a 5-state trip through the Western U.S.
Donald J. Peel started a sexual relation with the 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas in late 2013, said Lauren Horwood, spokesperson for U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of California. In February 2014, Peel and the girl took a trip through Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and California.
According to court documents, Peel had sex with the girl in each state.
Horwood said Peel was eventually arrested in Weed, Calif., located north of Mt. Shasta on Interstate 5, with the girl still in his company. The investigation was a joint effort with the FBI, California Highway Patrol and the Weed Police Department.
Peel was indicted by a federal grand jury for one count of interstate transportation of a minor for prohibited sexual contact, Horwood said. His arraignment is scheduled for April 16.
If convicted, Peel could face at least 10 years in prison.
