A father and his 15-year-old son were shot Wednesday night during a home invasion at their home in Salida, Calif. in Stanislaus County.
Their injuries were non-life threatening. The father and son were credited for distracting the suspects and allowing other family members to get away.
The home invasion happened around 8:30 p.m., when the suspects burst into the home and demanded valuables. Though the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is not releasing information about the suspects, neighbors said the victims told them that the men were between the ages of 18 and 24.
Neighbor Ed Silveira, who helped the victims get medical care before paramedics arrived, was still startled at what happened.
"Unbelievable, weird, none of that happens (here)," Silveira said. "It's a good neighborhood with kids out playing, so no clue what that would (happen here)."
