MODESTO, CA - Dan Joseph wasn't in the military himself, but as a video producer, he was hired often through the years to videotape funerals of local service members. Getting to know those families inspired him to create his own Memorial Day tribute.

"I spent a lot of time with them, have grown to love them and respect them. I know it means the word to them if somebody will honor and remember the sacrifice their sons and daughters made," said Joseph.

For the fourth time on Memorial Day weekend, Joseph has placed dozens of crosses in his front yard on Woodland Avenue. They represent a service member from Stanislaus County who died in Iraq or Afghanistan. This yearJoseph also added crosses in honor of local law enforcement workers who died in the line of duty.

"The number one fear is their memory will be forgotten. This is a demonstration it won't be forgotten, at least not on my watch," said Joseph.
