SACRAMENTO - Forapproximately six weeks beginning in early May, a Sacramento highway crossover will undergo repairs, a project that will have a major impact on traffic, Caltrans says.
The elevated Highway 50 south of downtown Sacramento, between 18th and 24th streets, will beresurfaced. Caltrans says there are no safety issues with the viaduct, but it is showing heavy wear and cracking due to use and age.
According toCaltrans spokesperson Dennis Keaton, "Fix50" will be done in two stages:
- Stage 1: The eastbound lanes of the Highway 50 viaduct will be worked on from May 2 to 22, 2014.
- Stage 2: The westbound lanes of the Highway 50 viaduct will be worked on from May 20 to June 17, 2014
Keaton said while one direction is under construction, both directions of traffic will share the other side. Drivers will also be redirected to detours and alternate routes.
