The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting death at an Arden apartment complex.

The shooting victim, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital by his family members on Wednesday afternoon, Sgt. Lisa Bowman said. When they drove into the ER's driveway, the family waved down an officer for help. Bowman said the man was then pronounced dead at the hospital. No other information about the victim was released. His identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim got into an argument with the suspect in a hallway of the Ethan Terrace Apartments, in the 1800 block of Ethan Way. When the argument escalated, the suspect shot the victim and then ran from the area. Investigators believe the suspect and the victim knew each other.

The sheriff's department first got reports of the shooting from an incomplete 911 call around 3 p.m.; dispatch heard a woman screaming in Spanish and then she hung up. Within 5 minutes, the sheriff's department got a few more calls about a shooting. Bowman said one of the calls came from the apartment manager.

Homicide detectives were able to identify the suspect and his whereabouts. Bowman said his identity will be released once he is arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail.
