STOCKTON - The man accused of stabbing his stepson Saturday night made a court appearance Tuesday and tried to enter a plea of "no contest."
Prosecutors said it's the same as admitting guilt.
Lope Charvet,53,is being held on a bail amount of $1.1 million. It was after the judge asked him if his name was spelled correctly on paperwork that Charvet tried to enter that plea.
Judge William Johnson told Charvet it wasn't the right time for a plea and made sure the suspect was givena public defender.
Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Charvet allegedly stabbed his 10-year-old stepson multiple times. The boy was taken to UC Davis Medical Center to get treatment; he was listed in fair condition when this story was posted.
When officers first arrived atthe home on the 3200 block of Auburn Chase Circle Saturday night, the scenewas consideredtoo dangerous for medics to enter the home. A Stockton police officer had to carry theboy from the home to medics waiting outside.
