A young Stockton boy is fighting for his life after he was attacked in his own home.
The 10-year-old boy is at UC Davis Medical Center in critical but stable condition after being repeatedly stabbed.
"I got to finally see him, to see that he was alive," said Doug Srulowitz, the boy's father.
Srulowitz went through some scary moments Saturday night after learning that his son had been stabbed in the chest.
"It's surreal to anybody. I can't imagine what's he's going through," said Srulowitz.
The boy's stepfather, Lope Charvet, is accused of trying to kill him.
The boy is in the Intensive care and needs a respirator to breathe. "He's still in the woods, not through them yet, but prognosis looks good," said Srulowitz.
Police say it's still unclear what led Charvet to attack his stepson inside the family's Stockton home. By the time cops arrived, they found the boy pleading for help. "He said 'please save my life, and then he thanked them,'" said Srulowitz.
Police found Charvet barricaded inside a bedroom. After attacking the boy, they say he stabbed himself.
Srulowitz said the boy's mom is in shock but wants her husband to pay the ultimate price. "She's as traumatized as all of us that this could have happened. She said, 'Lope hurt our child and I want him prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,'" said Srulowitz.
For now, both mother and father are by their son's bedside, hoping for a full recovery. "His mom and I went over to him and we were telling him we loved him and he opened his eyes," said Srulowitz.
Charvet will be arraigned in court Tuesday. He faces attempted murder charges.
