SACRAMENTO - When people look back on the great runners of our time, they'll think of world class athletes like Usain Bolt, Linford Christie,Carl Lewis and Jessie Owens. Well, now you can add a Sacramento native to the list of champion sprinters.

Sammie the dachshund bested a ferocious field of eight to claim honors as "Top Dog" at the 18th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Finals in San Diego Monday.

As rewards for his title-clinching run, Sammie received $1,000, rode atop Wienerschnitzel's float in the eventparade and was recognized on the field at the 2013 Holiday Bowl.

No announcement has been made as to whether a victory parade will be held in Sacramento in Sammie's honor.
