SACRAMENTO - A Whitney High School teacher was arrested Monday on suspicion ofsexting a 17-year-old girl.

Capt. Lon Milka said Richard Eldredge, 41, a theater arts teacher at Whitney, was booked into Placer County Jail on a felony charge of unlawful contact with a minor for unlawful sexual purposes.

The girl told police investigators that Eldredge sent her texts more than once either seeking sex or nude photos of her, Milka said.

The sexting came to light when a person required by law to report suspected child abuse came to police, Milka said. That person is not associated with the high school, he added.

Rocklin Unified School District placed Eldredge on administrative leave.

Investigators do not have any information that there are other victims but say if the suspect has had inappropriate contact with them, they should call Det. Neil Costa at (916) 625-5441.
